Bat Rules
All metal and alloy bats with a max barrel of 2 1/4 inches, max BPF of 1.15, max length of 33 inches, max drop of Minus 12. Composite barreled bats meeting these requirements will be allowed if they are approved for Little League play as evidenced by a stamp on the bat.
Baseball Helmets
Every batter and base-runner is required to wear a baseball helmet with a protective cage mask.  Each team is provided enough regulation helmets to ensure every batter and base-runner can meet this requirement.  Players are allowed to wear either a helmet provided by their team, or a helmet from their travel baseball team provided the helmet still has has the cage mask attached to it.  Any batter or base-runner who fails to meet this requirement will initiate a warning to the team from the umpire.  On the second occurrence of either a batter or base-runner failing to meet this requirement the batter who's up to bat will automatically start with a two-strike count.  If another infraction occurs from any player on the team the batter or base-runner who initiates the infraction will be called out.
Mustang (3rd & 4th grade) House League

The Mustang League (3rd and 4th graders) is by far the biggest league. The league is organized to achieve competitive balance.

All participants are required to attend an evaluation session in February. This evaluation, along with the child's school and grade, forms the basis of team placement. Each player will have at least one other player from their school and grade on their team.

This is the first level where games start to look like "real" baseball with children doing all of the pitching including mandatory pitching by 3rd graders. Games are called by student umpires. The season ends with a modified double elimination playoff.

Generally, each team plays one or two games during the week and has a game on Saturday. In addition, each team has a practice at least every other week and sometimes weekly depending on field availability.

Children play both outfield and infield positions in each game (a league requirement) to help ensure a positive experience and maximize skill development. The entire roster bats each game and equal play is also mandatory. Games generally start at 5:30 pm during the week, and are played throughout the day on Saturday. Games are up to six innings and last about an hour and a half. Games are played at Kenilworth Pee Wee, Kenilworth North, Winnetka #3, and Northfield #1. The highlight of the year is the Championship game.

Practices are scheduled to start the week after spring break with the first games in mid April. The playoffs will conclude the 2nd weekend of June. Teams will usually have 11 to 12 players per team with players coming from several schools.

Player Position Philosophy

Equal play rules are a priority in our Mustang House leagues and are detailed within the KWBA Mustang rules.pdf. Coaches are strongly encouraged to use the Lineup template 6 inning.xls before each game to organize player positioning accordingly.

5.5.1. Each player must play at least 2 innings of defense in the infield (first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, third baseman, catcher, or pitcher) by the end of the fifth inning. A player must play at least one inning in the outfield by the end of the fourth inning.

5.5.2. Each roster player present at game time may not sit out more than 1 inning on defense until each of the other roster players has also sat out at least 1 inning on defense. Similarly each player must sit out 2 innings before a player can sit out 3 innings. This is a high priority and the responsibility of the Head Coach.

9.4. A third grader must pitch at least one inning [defined as three consecutive outs in an inning] prior to the beginning of the fourth inning. In the event a third grade pitcher is unable to finish an inning for any reason (injury, ability, etc.), the team remains obligated to fulfill the "third grade inning" requirement and may substitute another third grader who has not pitched in that game. If a 3rd grader gives up the 5 run maximum before he has pitched 3 outs, the 3rd grade requirement has been met.
